Flowers have been offered for many different reasons.
May 19th, 2012
Traditionally, flowers have been offered for many different reasons, denoting a wealth of human emotion such as love, friendship and apology. Offering bloomsas symbolic tokens is an ancient tradition, which was popularised in Britain in Medieval times when lovers could not display their affection for one another publicly. In strict Victorian times, this was given further significance, with many books being written on the topic.
Saint Valentine’s Day and Mothers Day are two notable festivals where floral gifts are given, with carnations usually given as Mothers Day Flowers and red roses being the traditional Valentines flowers we see in shop windows each year.
For something a little different this year however, why not consider taking some inspiration from the Victorians and giving your loved one your own specially “coded” bouquet?
Valentines flowers are pretty much restricted to bunches of a dozen roses by tradition, but why not add a twist to this? Alstromerias signify devotion, while anemones mean unfading love. For an unrequited valentine, offering a dahlia denotes love which may not be returned by the person who receives the flowers, but acknowledges it nonetheless. Similarly, gardenias are used to signify a secret love. If your Valentine is a little more on the platonic side however, you can still show them you care by sending a bunch of roses -that is to say, yellow roses, which are used to signify friendship.
Mothers Day flowers are given in all kinds of forms. Perhaps you want to tell your mum how proud of her you are? Then amaryllises are the perfect flowers to give. Gerbera Regard Gladioli are a way of telling someone that they are generous and strong in character, a perfect sentiment for Mothers Day,while poinsettias, traditionally offered as Christmas flowers, mean good cheer.
The act of giving flowers has been used traditionally for many thousands of years, and each culture attributes different meanings to certain blooms, so while carnations may well be the original Mothers Day flowers, in Mexico they mean something quite different -in fact they are used to celebrate the lives of deceased loved ones in the Day of the Dead!
Valentines flowers are traditionally sent to the object of the lover’s affections in secret, without the recipient knowing who has sent them. However, the actual gifting has changed over the years, with bouquets being sent directly to the house or place of work, or even given to the person’s Valentine in person. Another popular method of gifting has come in the form of singing telegrams, which were made popular in post war America. This unusual method of greeting your Valentine and wishing them a happy Valentines Day involves someone who will be sent to your loved one with a personalised song who can then offer them the bouquet.

Previously unseen Rossetti to go on show
May 18th, 2012
Mnemosyne, an unseen work by artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti will be shown next year at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, reports BBC News.
The delicate pastel drawing remained in Rossetti’s private studio until his passing in 1882, and since has been housed in a private collection. The image depicts his muse, Jane Morris, with whom he fell in love later in life, and is based on Greek methodology’s personification of memory.
The drawing (currently housed in Delaware Art Museum) will hang alongside other pieces of late 19th century art, including a portrait of the infamous pre-Raphaelite model, Elizabeth Siddal. According to Birmingham News Room, it is the most comprehensive collection of art from this time ever to be staged, and will be open to the public from January to May 2011. It will then move across the world’s art galleries and transfer to The Art gallery of New South Wales, in Sydney.
Rossetti began work on the drawing in 1876, working on it for 5 years before completion in 1881. Morris regularly appears in Rossetti’s work, more often than not representing mythological and literary characters, rather than herself.
Morris’ distinctive look (thick, dark hair and strong features) is typical of the pre-Raphaelite ideal of beauty, and upon viewing the many paintings of Morris, novelist Henry James wrote “It’s hard to say [whether] she’s a grand synthesis of all the pre-Raphaelite pictures ever made – or they a keen analysis of her – whether she’s an original or a copy. In either case, she is a wonder.”
A contact from Birmingham City Council, Councillor Martin Mullaney, is in full support of the project, announcing “It is an extraordinary coup by our world-class museum and art gallery to secure this previously unseen work by Rossetti for the exhibition. I am very grateful to the anonymous lender for the generosity for this loan. I know it will help draw many visitors to our city to see this extraordinary exhibition.”

How to get Custom Canvas Prints done in the UK
May 16th, 2012
A Canvas print is the result of an image being printed on canvas and stretched, then put on a frame and set up for display. Canvas prints of a photo can be done easily. Getting canvas printing done is the best way of preserving a photo as they tend to last for centuries. If you have photo which you want to preserve for the future generations, getting canvas prints done of it instead of putting it into a photo album is a wonderful idea. Canvas printing is something that has been done for a long time now. Reproduction of original art work using offset printing was pretty common. But since the 1990′s, giclee printing and Repligraph has become more common. Not only do they last longer, they are also easier to do.
The printing is usually done on cotton or Poly canvas, which is a cheaper alternative. After the process of printing is over, the canvas is trimmed to the wanted size. Then it is stapled or glued to a wooden panel or a traditional stretcher bar. Next, either a frame is used or a gallery wrap is done. Gallery wrap implies that the print is designed in a way that it continues around the edges of the stretcher. The gallery wrap is a good idea if you want a 3-dimensional effect. Usually canvas prints made for mounting on the wall weigh about 400 gm.
If you want a favorite image to be transformed into canvas prints in UK, trust the internet to offer you a solution. There are a lot of online companies based in the UK which will make you a custom canvas suiting your preferences. They are inexpensive and will not burn a whole in your pocket. Opt for a company which will be using archival ink and canvas for your canvas print UK. They will last longer and have a lesser chance of colors fading with time. Choose the kind of frame you want with care. A low-quality wooden frame will hamper the picture quality which you certainly won’t want. It is best that the image you want to print is a digital one with a high resolution. The print will come out well.
Choosing the canvas photo paper is an important consideration which you need to pay attention to. There are three types of canvas papers available: matte, glossy and semi-matte. Decide on the kind of effect you want your print to have. Choosing a light-weight canvas paper will cost you cheap but you have to then do with a low-quality print. The print that will be created will not be of a very high quality. If it is an important critical photo you want to print, choose a paper that has advanced coatings. A glossy paper will give a shiny effect.
About the Author
Choosing a glossy paper will produce the best-quality image with highest color density. Getting a custom canvas print done has never been so easy with so many options available.

When Nature Aquariums Becomes An Art and Business
May 16th, 2012
Nature aquarium started as an upgrade from an ordinary fish tank building hobby to an art. It is where an aquarium that was originally intended for fancy fish was aquascaped with real) underwater plants. In ordinary aquarium, the emphasis of the hobby is the fish, while the emphasis of nature aquarium is the habitat and aquascape of the fish tank.
The great hobby was first popularized by Takashi Amano, a Japanese artist. He was known in photography of nature scenic views which brought him to wonderful places of the world. With his interest to nature, he incorporated his creative imaginations inside the fish tank which later on became a popular work of art.
The main idea of nature aquarium is creating an ecosystem inside the fish tank where fish, harmful and beneficial bacteria, shrimps and other invertebrates, water plants, and all other forms aquatic life live together like that of what we see on National Geographic. Only that, it is inside the fish tank. In other words, it is a small ecosystem.
There are many kinds of aquatic plants that can be used for aquascaping depending on your style and creative imagination. You can use a plant named Hemianthus callitrichodes or otherwise known as “HC” for covering the landscape. For giving a different look aside from green, Ludwigia Arcuata maybe a good choice. For designing a mountain like scenic view, Dwarf Haigrass or Elocharis acicularis may be a good choice. Again, it depends on your own preferences and creative mind.
With the fishes,, please note that since it is a small ecosystem, it is not recommendable to have big fishes like Arowana or Oscar. It’s not what we are trying to build here. It is best to have tiny fishes such as Guppy and Tetra. Getting some colorful fish is also good. But please, no Gold Fishes alright?.
Also try to consider some invertebrates small shrimps. They eat algae and some other harmful bacteria inside the nature aquarium. They can help maintain the balance in inside your aquarium.
Though algae is a part of the ecosystem, algae has to be controlled inside the fish tank. They multiply so fast. They can destroy the beauty of your aquarium and may have detrimental inside the tank. Having some shrimps and snails is a great help in maintaining the ecosystem in balance.
If you do not like invertebrates, a fish known as Siamese algae eater, would be a perfect match against algae. It is best if you have one Siamese algae eater in 20 gallon tank.
Lastly, consider the lighting, CO2 and oxygen, substrate, and filtration systems. They are very important in growing the plants well. Successful nature aquariums have excellent systems of the 5 mentioned above.
Takashi Amano’s hobby became an art, then later on became a business. With the scientific study of the right equipments for nature aquariums, Takashi started Aqua Design Amano, a company that manufactures good quality lighting, CO2 and oxygen, substrate, and filtration systems. The equipments mentioned are quite expensive than the ordinary ones. Rest assuredly however, they are of the highest quality that you can get with the brand.

Other step is to sketch for just improving your skills and fun of sketching. The this is also known as casual sketching. But there is one good point in it that if you do sketch with perfection then this fun will convert into a magnificent art of drawing.

Get Noticed With A Great Company Logo And Eye Catching Logo Apparel
May 13th, 2012
Many companies do not give serious attention to one of their most important marketing aspect and that is their logo, and the company look. Too often the Logo is sloppy, hard to read, and doesn’t have anything to do with the business. The shirts must be neat and consistent because presentation is also very important to your new customers.
What are the important benefits about your company’s Logo and company dress or uniform?
First Marketing. A logo should show as much as possible what you do. If you do Bagels well, you should show a bagel, not the table setting. If you do yoga well, you should incorporate a yoga form as much as possible. Consider a custom designed logo. If you have a slogan it should be your company’s most important quality or service that you wish to relay to yourcustomers or future customers. Try to get that in a quick one- line blurb above, below or off to the side of the logo.
Consider the size of the logo, lettering and details that you wish to place inside that logo. Also remember that your logo will then go on all your correspondences, marketing pieces, company apparel and trucks. Succinct is better than verbose. For the company shirt you might consider the logo on the front and more information on the back of the shirt such as a website, phone number, address of other store locations, or other services, that way it doesn’t distract from your logo.
Second. It provides a uniformed and consistent company image. You can designate certain areas of the company with colors or styles. For instance your security personnel may wear a short sleeve dark blue polo shirt with black and white checkered trim, and your mail personnel may wear, light blue polo shirts with black and white checkered trim, and the rest of your staff may wear a white polo shirt with the black and white checkered trim etc. For someone trying to duplicate your shirt or uniform this could be an extra security measure. Also from a distance, personnel are easily distinguished.
Third. Logo apparel is great for company outings, give-aways, rewards, and for conversations. Many times one of your staff could be out on company or personal business and someone will notice the company shirt and start a conversation about his or her company’s needs and you just converted a sale without much effort at all.
Lastly it provides brand recognition, builds trust with your customers, and establishes the class of character and quality associated with a company. Embroidered logo apparel suggests a bit more selective and upscale quality whereas, a printed or silk-screened shirt suggest a more casual atmosphere or company attitude. You need to decide what is the look and feel that you are going for your company’s first impression, and lasting impression. But remember make it clear from the get-go.

Gustav Klimt’s Life and Paintings
May 11th, 2012
Gustav Klimt was an Austrian Symbolist painter and also one of the most important members of the Vienna Secession movement. His major works include murals, sketches, paintings and other art objects. Female body was Klimt’s primary subject. His works are marked by a frank eroticism–nowhere is this more apparent than in his numerous drawings in pencil
Gustav Klimt’s illustrious career is a long tale of exceptional achievement in art. Klimt paintings are still very popular across the world, far beyond the boundaries of his Australia. This article will give you some more information about Klimt and his paintings so as to choose ideal oil painting reproductions.
There is one painting we will pay special attention to which remains one of the most popular oil painting reproductions and was reproduced thousands of times. That is The Kiss, Klimt painted this painting in 1908. In order to understand this famous painting, we need to know the whole art career of Klimt, especially the timing of his major works and see where this popular painting fits in.
Gustav Klimt was born in the village of Baumgarten, near Vienna, on July 14, 1862. At age fourteen, after entering Vienna’s University of Plastic Arts he began painting. He continued his studies at the University until he graduated in 1882. At that time he was commissioned to produce several ornamental works, utilizing his schooling in modernist design. After entering the Vienna Public Art School at the age of 14, Gustav Klimt set out on a path that would eventually lead to stardom and international acclaim.
Klimt started his art career and spent the first few years designing stylish staircase decorative additions which gained him good feedback from his early customers, some well known Austrian museums in Vienna. Klimt’s notorious style also began to take shape already with gold paint, areas of detail and areas of abstract space, symbolism, the female figure appearing in one of his very early piece, The Tragedy.
1892 is an important period during Klimt’s live with the death of both his father and his brother Ernst. On a more positive note, he moved into a larger studio as his career started to gain momentum.
Gustav soon started to gain as much controversy for his contemporary style as fame, and his work in public institutions was to dry up due to the conservative nature of their management. It was around this time that the Secession Movement began whose timing and ambitions were ideally suited to Klimt. He played vital role in this movement for some years to come as it developed into a popular element of the Vienna art scene, with many foreign contemporary artists included too.
Klimt’s first levels of acclaim for his art came at around the turn of the century when he was featured, successfully, at the Paris World Fair. The preceding year he painted "Medicine" and "Judith and Holofernes" which remain as two of his most well known paintings with art lovers of the modern day. Beethoven Frieze and a portrait of Emilie Flöge followed in 1902 as the Secession Building continued to attract great numbers of visitors from both Austria and abroad.
Klimt’s foreign popularity took him to Belgium and Italy as the Secession Movement built up a reputation throughout Europe. A private mansion commissioned some murals and he explored the artistic history of Italy looking for further inspiration. "Water Snakes" was also created around this time, 1904, which is another of his most famous paintings.
Klimt decided to back his own artistic beliefs and quit the Secession movement along with with a number of other members to set up "Kunstschau". This move helped to inspire Klimt to then paint "The Three Ages of Women" – another classic.
1907 and 1908 marked a key stage in Klimt’s career, probably the most important, as he painted "Danae", "Adele Bloch-Bauer" & "The Kiss". The Kiss remains his most famous painting, and is the most purchased art reproduction, currently, with art lovers picking it up in print or poster form to show off in their homes and offices.
Klimt’s concentration on eroticism as an inspiration for his art, which had earlier brought him controversy, began to be mixed in with other themes, most notably death, as seen in "Judith II", "Hope" & "Death and Life".
Gustav Klimt continued to gift the art world more beautiful paintings up until his sudden death in 1918 after a combination of a stroke and pneumonia. The most famous Austrian artist was suddenly gone, but his original, glorious art still lives in on the hearts of art fans across the world.
